Privacy policy

In short: this website collects nothing about you. It has no cookies, no analytics, no ads, no forms and no third-party scripts. The IRC channel is a public room, and the channel bot stores a small record only if you choose to register with it.
Who we are
undernet.xyz is a volunteer community site for #Canada on the Undernet IRC network, run by the #Canada channel team. It is not operated by Undernet. For privacy questions, open an issue on GitHub or ask a channel operator in #Canada.
What this website collects
Nothing. The pages are plain HTML files. They load no fonts, images, scripts or embeds from other sites, and the pages themselves block such requests with a Content Security Policy. There is no visitor counter, no analytics, no advertising and no form to fill in.
Your browser keeps two small settings on your own device: your language choice and whether you closed the notice about cookies. They are never sent anywhere. The cookie policy lists them.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address when your browser requests a page and may log it for security and to keep the service running. We do not have access to those logs. See the GitHub privacy statement.
Links to other sites
We link to Undernet, CService (X registration), web IRC clients and client download pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control. Our links are set so your browser does not tell them which page you came from.
The IRC channel
- #Canada is public. Anyone in the channel can read what you write, and any of them could keep a log with their own client.
- Undernet sees your connection. The network's servers see your IP address or
hostname. Other users can see it too unless you log in to X and set
/mode yournick +x. Undernet's own rules are in its acceptable use policy. - No encryption to Undernet. The network does not offer TLS, so treat anything you type as public.
The OhCanada bot
The channel bot handles only what it needs to run the channel:

The bot's script does not record what people say in the channel, and it doesn't sell or share any of this. The records above are used only to run #Canada.
Your choices and rights
Under Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA and, in Quebec, Law 25) you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. For bot records, ask a channel operator in #Canada. They can remove your registration. For anything else, open an issue on GitHub. Don't post private details in a public issue. Ask there for a private way to reach us instead.
If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Children
This site and the channel are not aimed at children. The channel is an open, general-audience chat room.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. The full history is public in the site's GitHub repository.
